When are you most happy?
Why I’m Happier When I Get Enough Deep Sleep

Lately, I’ve realized something that has made a huge difference in my life: getting enough deep sleep. As someone who’s always loved staying active—especially through basketball and writing—resting well has become just as essential to my happiness. It’s not just about quantity, though; it’s about the quality of sleep. Deep sleep has become my secret to a better mood, sharper mind, and even improved performance.
The Connection Between Sleep and Happiness
When I get enough deep sleep, I feel like a completely different person. My energy levels are higher, I’m more focused, and I handle stress so much better. Science backs this up—deep sleep is when our brains process emotions, consolidate memories, and repair physical wear and tear. Without it, everything feels harder. I’ve had days where I didn’t sleep well, and even small things would get under my skin. Compare that to well-rested days, where I’m calmer, more optimistic, and better equipped to tackle life’s challenges.
How Deep Sleep Impacts My Routine
For me, deep sleep isn’t just about lying in bed for 8 hours. It’s about hitting that restorative phase where my body and mind truly recharge. This is crucial not only for my happiness but also for my favorite activity: basketball.
Beyond the physical, deep sleep gives me mental clarity. It’s no coincidence that my streak of writing consistently—now 14 days strong—has aligned with prioritizing rest. A clear mind makes creative flow
Until next time…
