The Tale of My Beloved Game Boy Color: A Bittersweet Memory

Growing up in the late ‘90s, there was no gift more magical than a Game Boy Color. Mine wasn’t just a gaming device; it was a symbol of connection, joy, and childhood wonder. My younger brother, knowing my love for adventure and curiosity, gifted me his. It was green—a color as vibrant as the endless hours of happiness it would bring me.
I can still remember the day I received it. My brother handed me the small box with a knowing smile. Inside was the Game Boy Color, accompanied by a copy of Pokémon Yellow. To me, it wasn’t just a gadget; it was a portal to other worlds, a place where Pikachu was my loyal companion, and every button press held the promise of discovery.
The Game Boy Color became my most treasured possession. It went everywhere with me—long car rides, lazy afternoons, and quiet nights under the covers, illuminated by a tiny, awkwardly clipped-on light. It was more than a distraction; it was my escape.
When I started at Adisadel College, I hesitated to bring it along. Boarding school life was unpredictable, and the thought of something happening to it filled me with dread. But I couldn’t leave it behind. It was my connection to home and my brother, who had always been my biggest cheerleader. So, I packed it carefully, tucked between books and clothes, and brought it along.
Adisadel College was a world of its own—rich in history, camaraderie, and unforgettable experiences. But it was also a place where personal possessions sometimes get lost
Until next time…
