This is quiet courage — not loud wins, but grace that kept walking through grief. Your words remind us that…

An attraction close yet I haven’t visited yet

Name an attraction or town close to home that you still haven’t got around to visiting.

Why I Haven’t Visited the Baltimore Museum Yet (Even Though It’s Right Here)

Living close to one of the most renowned cultural institutions in the region should make visiting it a no-brainer, right? The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) is just a short drive away, but here I am, months—or let’s be honest, years—later, and I still haven’t stepped foot inside.

For someone who prides themselves on soaking in local experiences, the irony isn’t lost on me. So, why haven’t I made the time? Here are some thoughts as I reflect on this surprising gap in my local adventures.

1. The Illusion of Proximity

The funny thing about living close to something amazing is that you assume you can visit anytime. It’s like that book sitting on your nightstand—you always mean to read it, but you never do because there’s no sense of urgency. The BMA has become my “someday” plan.

2. Competing Priorities

Life gets busy. Between work, writing consistently (a new streak I’m proud of), staying active on the basketball court, and trying to rest well, visiting the museum keeps slipping down the list. There’s always something else demanding attention—errands, family, or just catching up on rest after a long week.

3. Unfounded Excuses

I’ll admit it: sometimes, it’s easier to make excuses than to take action. “I’ll go when the weather’s nicer.” “Maybe there’s an exhibit worth waiting for.” “I’ll find the time when I’m less busy.” These excuses pile up and slowly turn into months of inaction.

4. The Myth of Familiarity

When you live in a place, you tend to take its treasures for granted. Tourists fly in, plan their visits meticulously, and dive into experiences locals often overlook. I’ve heard friends and visitors rave about the BMA’s collection—the Matisse pieces, the contemporary art—but for some reason, I keep telling myself I’ll get there eventually.

5. Breaking the Cycle

This reflection has sparked something in me—a sense of accountability. I’ve been missing out on.

Until next time…
