You get some great, amazingly fantastic news. What’s the first thing you do?
Marinating in the Moment: How I Stay Present When I Get Fantastic News

Great news has a way of electrifying the soul. It floods the mind with excitement, sparking a rush of emotions that can send me into a whirlwind of thoughts about what’s next. But I’ve learned something valuable: I don’t want to rush past my great news. I want to live it.
So, when I receive fantastic news, I take a moment to marinate in it—fully soaking in the joy before letting my mind race ahead.
Step 1: Pause and Breathe
The first thing I do is stop whatever else I’m doing. I take a deep breath, letting the reality of the moment settle in. Instead of immediately sharing or planning my next move, I sit with the news, allowing myself to feel its impact.
Step 2: Acknowledge the Journey
Great news doesn’t appear out of thin air; it often comes after effort, patience, or even struggle. I take a second to appreciate what led to this moment—the work I put in, the lessons I learned, and even the setbacks that made the victory sweeter.
Step 3: Let It Sink in Before Sharing
The urge to call, text, or post about the news is strong, but I resist—just for a little while. I remind myself that this moment is mine first. I want to experience it fully before sharing it with the world.
Step 4: Engage My Senses

To stay present, I connect with the physical world around me. Maybe I step outside and feel the fresh air on my skin, or I take a sip of water and notice its coolness. By engaging my senses, I ground myself in the now, making my great news feel even more real.
Step 5: Celebrate in a Meaningful Way
Instead of rushing to the next goal, I take time to enjoy the win.
Until next time…
