The One Question I Hate to Be Asked: How I Broke My 87-Day Streak

There are some questions in life that people throw around casually, unaware of the weight they carry. For me, that question is: “How did you break your 87-day streak?“
At first glance, it might seem like a harmless curiosity. Maybe even an encouraging conversation starter. But to me, it’s a reminder of something deeper—something I don’t feel like revisiting.
The Journey of a Streak
Building that streak wasn’t easy. It took commitment, discipline, and countless moments of pushing past doubt and exhaustion. When I hit day 50, I told myself, This is the longest I’ve ever gone consistently. By day 87, I had redefined what I thought was possible for myself.
Then, it ended.
The reasons don’t really matter—not to anyone but me. Life happens. Priorities shift. Energy fades. And sometimes, despite the best intentions, a streak meets its end. But what people don’t realize is that when they ask how I broke it, they’re not just asking about a single moment of stopping. They’re unintentionally peeling back layers of effort, sacrifice, and personal battles that went into keeping it alive in the first place.
The Real Question That Matters
Instead of asking why it ended, why not ask how I managed to sustain it for so long?
What kept me going through the hard days? What did I learn along the way? What new habits did I form that still serve me today?
Those are the questions that celebrate the effort rather than dwell on the loss.
Moving Forward
The streak may have ended, but the work hasn’t. If anything, it taught me that consistency isn’t about counting days—it’s about showing up again, even after a break.
Until next time…
