This is quiet courage — not loud wins, but grace that kept walking through grief. Your words remind us that…

What makes me laugh?

What makes you laugh?

What Makes Me Laugh: The Science of a Good Cackle

Laughter is one of life’s simplest joys, and for me, it comes in all forms. It’s not just about the joke itself—it’s about how people laugh. Some laughs are contagious, some are downright ridiculous, and some feel like a musical performance. If you’ve ever been in a room where one person’s laugh sets off a chain reaction, you know exactly what I mean.

The Symphony of Laughter

Some people have deep belly laughs that sound like rolling thunder. Others have high-pitched, wheezy laughs that make them look like they’re fighting for breath. Then there are the silent laughers—the ones who shake uncontrollably but make no sound. These people crack me up the most because the struggle is real; you can see their whole body vibrating like an overworked engine, yet no noise comes out.

The Unexpected Laughers

There’s also something about when a person who rarely laughs finally lets one out. That deep, unexpected chuckle from a normally serious face? It’s priceless. It’s like unlocking a hidden achievement in a video game—you know you’ve witnessed something special.

The Machine-Gun Laughers

Some people laugh in bursts—short, repetitive ha-ha-ha-ha sounds, like a machine gun on rapid fire. This type of laughter is so exaggerated it’s impossible to ignore. Imagine this in a quiet library, and you had to leave because I knew I would burst out laughing just from the sound of it.

The Snorters and the Hyenas

I can’t forget the snorters. You know the ones—laughter builds up, and then out of nowhere, snort! It’s like their nose joins the party, and it’s impossible not to laugh with them. Then, of course, there are the hyenas—those whose laughter echoes across the room with high-pitched screeches. If you don’t know a hyena laugher, then you might be the hyena in your group.

The Laughter That Gets Me Every Time

At the end of the day, what really makes me laugh isn’t just the joke itself but how it’s received. When someone has a completely unique laugh—whether it’s a deep rumble, a wheezy struggle, or an uncontrollable snort—it gets me every time. And if I hear a laugh that’s so ridiculous it sounds like it shouldn’t belong to a human? That’s it, I’m gone. Laughter is contagious, and sometimes, the sound of someone else’s laughter is funnier than the joke itself.

Until next time…
