Have you ever broken a bone?
Never Broken a Bone—

I’ve taken my fair share of risks in life. From climbing trees barefoot as a kid, to braving rough basketball courts without thinking twice about falling, to diving into DIY projects that sometimes required more nerve than skill—I’ve flirted with danger more than a few times. And yet, through all the scrapes, bruises, and near misses, I can say this with a little pride and a lot of gratitude: I have never broken a single bone.
That’s not to say I haven’t had moments where I thought this is it. That sickening twist of the ankle, the hard landings that leave you breathless, or that time I crashed with a bloody, shaken elbow and burned on the court trying to do a layup. But somehow, my bones have held it together.
Maybe it’s genetics. Maybe it’s the way I fall—like my body knows how to distribute the impact just enough to avoid disaster. Or maybe it’s just sheer personal luck. Whatever the case, I don’t take it for granted.
Because I know people who haven’t been so fortunate. Friends with cast stories, pins and plates, and hospital selfies. And don’t get me wrong, I’ve had my pain. Sprains that kept me off my feet. Soreness that stuck around longer than it should. But no cracks. No fractures. No emergency room X-rays showing something out of line.
