A quiet Word of Thanks: How I Practice Gratitude Without Slowing Down
There’s a difference I’ve come to notice—between appreciation and gratitude.
Appreciation is when I recognize the value in something.
Gratitude is when I feel thankful for it—and often, respond.
Appreciation can be silent.
Gratitude moves. It speaks. It acts. Even if quietly.
For me, gratitude is not a performance.
It can be loud, but it doesn’t ask for attention.
It simply shows up—like breath, like rest, like this moment now.

Gratitude on Time
I used to think gratitude required effort or journaling or time set aside.(can be necessary)
Now I know: it just takes presence—and a small response.
Here’s how I express gratitude now.
When I get dressed, I take a moment to rub the fabric between my fingers and think,
“Thank you for this covering and comfort .”
Before I write, I take a breath and say to myself,
“Thank you for this space and time to be here .”
When someone helps me, I return the energy—maybe with a short message, a kind pause to express why it means a lot , or just by being there next time they need something.

I can also be fully present in person with someone in a quiet but deep way maybe with a smile or a hug without saying nothing at all , just to say thank you
When I drink water, gobbling down or sipping ; I think,
“This is keeping me going. Thank you.”

When I rest, I don’t see it as unusual. I say,
“I’m grateful my body asked me to slow down—and that I listened.”

Each action may seem small. But together, they remind me:
I’m not just going through life . I’m adding some essence to it. A little smile to life’s face.

and you?
reading this right now—makes me grateful. You could be anywhere, doing anything else.
But you paused with me here. That means a lot and I appreciate it more than you know.
Is there a person, a habit ,a small task ?
Whatever it is, take a second.
notice it , Even if it is just in your heart. It really counts. It Appreciates.
If this gave you something to pause over— stay around .
Until next time,
thank you for being here.
Really.
