The One Trend I Would Erase From History

If I could erase one trend from history, it would be slavery.

To me, slavery was completely unnecessary. It was built on the idea that some human beings could own and control other human beings. No amount of economic gain, political power, or tradition could ever justify taking away another person’s freedom and dignity.

When I look back at history, I see many inventions and ideas that helped move the world forward. Slavery did the opposite. It left generations with deep wounds, separated families, and denied countless people the opportunity to live freely and pursue their dreams.

What makes slavery especially tragic is that humanity has always been capable of cooperation without oppression. Progress can come through innovation, hard work, and mutual respect—not through forcing others into bondage.

History cannot be rewritten, but it can teach us valuable lessons. Remembering slavery should remind us to protect freedom, stand against injustice, and recognize the equal worth of every person.

If there is one historical trend I would erase forever, it is slavery. The world would have been better without it, and the lesson it leaves behind is that no society truly advances when it denies the humanity of others.
