Do I Work Here?

One of the funniest misunderstandings I have been part of has happened more than once. I’ll be standing in a shopping aisle, taking my time looking for something, when someone walks up to me and asks, “Do you work here?” Sometimes they skip that question altogether and go straight to, “Do you know where I can find this item?”

It always catches me by surprise because I’m just another customer trying to figure things out myself. I don’t know if I look like I know the store well or if I just happen to be standing in the right place at the right time.

I usually laugh it off and let them know I don’t work there. Every time it happens, I wonder what it is about me that gives people that impression. Maybe I have a helpful look on my face.

It’s one of those small, unexpected moments that reminds me life has a great sense of humor. Even a simple trip to the store can turn into a funny story you’ll remember for years.Sometimes the funniest memories come from ordinary moments we never see coming.
