What’s a skill you consider basic, that most people don’t actually know how to do?
A Basic Skill That Isn’t So Basic
One skill I have always considered basic is knowing how to change a tire. It surprises me how many people don’t know how to do it. At the same time, I don’t judge them because changing a tire does require some thought, patience, and a little confidence. It isn’t difficult once you learn it, but it isn’t something everyone naturally picks up.

For me, it feels like one of those life skills that gives you a sense of independence. Instead of waiting for help, you can solve the problem yourself and get back on the road. There is something satisfying about being able to handle an unexpected situation with your own hands.
What this has taught me is that “basic” is relative. A skill that comes naturally to one person may seem complicated to someone else. We all have abilities that we take for granted because they come easily to us, while someone else may struggle with them. The reverse is also true.

That realization reminds me to stay humble. The things I find simple may be difficult for someone else, just as there are skills they have mastered that I have never learned. We all bring different strengths to life, and that’s part of what makes people unique. It’s a good reminder that what feels ordinary to us is often extraordinary to someone else.
Until next time.
