Best piece of Advice

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Be Intentional With Your Energy

The best piece of advice I ever received was simple: be intentional with your energy.

At first, it sounds like ordinary advice, but the older I get, the more I understand how powerful it really is. Energy is something we all have, but we don’t have an unlimited supply of it. Where we choose to spend it can make a huge difference in how we experience our lives.

I have learned that not everything deserves my attention, my reaction, or my effort. Sometimes the best thing I can do is recognize what is happening, accept that I cannot control everything, and decide where my energy is actually needed.

Being intentional with my energy doesn’t mean ignoring problems or avoiding difficult situations. It means being more thoughtful about what I allow to consume me. There are things worth fighting for, things worth improving, and things worth simply letting go.

It also reminds me to put energy into the present. I can spend so much time thinking about what happened yesterday or worrying about what might happen tomorrow that I forget that today is the only moment I can actually do something with.

So now, I try to ask myself: Is this worth my energy?

If the answer is yes, I give it my attention and do what I can. If the answer is no, I try not to carry it any further than necessary.

Life will always give us things competing for our attention. The real skill is learning what deserves it.

Being intentional with my energy has taught me that I don’t have to respond to everything, chase everything, or worry about everything. I simply need to be deliberate about where I put what I have.

Because sometimes protecting your energy isn’t about doing less.

It’s about making sure what you do matters.

Until next time.
