Beautifully written . I let the uncertainty come and handled them as my way.

Adult moment

What’s a moment when you realized you were officially an adult?

When I Realized I Was Officially an Adult

I don’t think there was one particular birthday when I suddenly felt like an adult. For me, it happened much later, through life itself. I realized I was officially an adult when I had lost both of my parents and found myself in my late 30s, having to navigate life without them.

Losing a parent changes you. Losing both makes you look at life differently. There is a realization that eventually comes: there is no longer someone older to call when you need that familiar guidance, reassurance, or sense of home. You begin to understand that you are now one of the adults you once looked up to.

Being in my late 30s also made the realization more meaningful. At this stage of life, I have experienced enough to understand that adulthood isn’t simply about getting older. It is about becoming more self-reliant, making decisions for yourself, accepting responsibility, and continuing forward even when life doesn’t give you all the answers.

I still carry lessons from my father with me who passed later after my mother. Their absence doesn’t erase their influence. In many ways, it makes those lessons more noticeable because now I have to apply them to my own life.

Becoming an adult wasn’t a moment of celebration for me. It was a quiet realization that life had changed and that I had changed with it.

I didn’t suddenly have everything figured out. I simply understood that I was responsible for moving forward.

And perhaps that is what adulthood really is—not knowing everything, but realizing you can keep going even when the people who once guided you are no longer there.

Until next time.
